Have you ever heard someone refer to humans as left brain dominant? Do you even know what that means? Well today I’m going to tell you exactly what that means and how to get more out of your right brain. Click here to watch my You Tube video about the left and right brain!

What is the left and right brain responsible for?

Left Brain:

First, let’s start with the left brain. The left brain is responsible for all reason and logic. It is the thing that grounds us to the world. It contains the memory bank of all things past, and creates potential scenarios for future. Your left brain tells you that you have to get up for work because you need money, it says that you must brush your teeth or you’ll get cavities, and it’s even responsible for things like self identity.

Right Brain:

The right brain is all about energy and feelings. It’s solely present focused. It connects us to the universe in this very moment and it can’t tell where your body stops and the world begins. The left brain is all about euphoria; it’s worry free.

Most people don’t realize that humans are dominant in our left brains. So what if we are missing out? What if we are spending so much time there, that we are actually making our lives worse. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Brain Scientist who was able to study herself after having a stroke says,

When a person has a reaction to something in their environment, there’s a 90-second chemical process that happens in the body; after that, any remaining emotional response is just the person choosing to stay in that emotional loop.”

“Something happens in the external world, and chemicals are flushed through your body which puts it on full alert. For those chemicals to totally flush out of the body, it takes less than 90 seconds. This means that for 90 seconds you can watch the process happening, you can feel it happening, and then you can watch it go away.”

“After that, if you continue to feel fear, anger, and so on, you need to look at the thoughts that you’re thinking that are re-stimulating the circuitry that is resulting in you having this physiological reaction, over and over again.”

These findings are HUGE! They basically mean, that we humans are choosing to stay in pain. We are staying in our anxiety and fear, when in reality, we could choose to step into our right brain and let go.

So how do we do that? Well activities such as listening to or playing music, making art, Learn About The Brain, therapy in newtown, pennsylvania, couples therapy, couples counselling, marriage counselling, relationship counseling, relationship therapy, philadelphiabuilding, cooking, anything creative, help us stay in the moment and explore that part of our mind. Mindfulness based exercises are the key to an anxiety free life.

You can choose to let go of those thoughts keeping you down, but first you must ask yourself the question, do you want to?
